A new study published in Archives of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine found that unvaccinated women who contract Covid-19 during pregnancy are more likely to have a stillbirth or a child who passes away in the first 28 days of life. After studying 64 stillbirths from mothers who had Covid-19 while pregnant, researchers believe the virus can cause extreme damage to the placenta and limit the fetus’s oxygen intake. At the time of the study, the Delta variant was dominant, and it appears that it was particularly effective at damaging the placenta.
