U.S. Open live golf scores, results, highlights from Sunday’s Round 4 leaderboard

Bryson DeChambeau already has a U.S. Open title under his belt, but he won it without a crowd in 2020. Four years later, DeChambeau appears to be playing off of the crowd’s energy at Pinehurst No. 2 as he seeks his second major championship.

Pinehurst wasn’t kind to some of the early leaders Saturday, with Tony Finau and Ludvig Aberg both tumbling down the leaderboard after triple bogeys.

The threat of such a tournament-changing swing wasn’t there on a much more forgiving course at the PGA Championship a month ago. But it’s quite real for DeChambeau, Rory McIlroy and every other player in contention entering Sunday.

Just being able to settle for par is an asset in this U.S. Open, and the steadiest player Sunday could be the one who prevails. So far, that player has been DeChambeau. Can he sustain it over the final 18 holes?

The Sporting News is tracking all the scores and highlights from Round 4 of the U.S. Open on Sunday. Follow along with updates and the leaderboard below.

U.S. Open live updates, results, highlights from Sunday’s Round 4

(All times Eastern.)

2:35 p.m. — Rory McIlroy got off to a fast start with a birdie on the first hole. He also parred the difficult second hole, and is now sitting two strokes back of DeChambeau after the leader made par at the first hole.

2:05 p.m. — The event leaders are getting ready to tee off. Rory McIlroy and Patrick Cantlay (both 4 under) will get going at 2:10 p.m. while Mattieu Pavon (4 under) and Bryson DeChambeau (4 under) will start their round at 2:21 p.m.

1:47 p.m. — Xander Schauffele has one of the best-rounded games on the PGA Tour, so it’s no surprise that he was able to drain a difficult shot from the sand. He’s even on the day through three holes.

1:46 p.m. — Tom Kim starts the day off right, making birdie on the first hole. That puts him under par for the tournament and just six shots back of DeChambeau.

1:01 p.m. — Emiliano Grillo narrowly missed a hole-in-one during his final round. Will we see any of the leaders get this close to the flagstick?

12:45 p.m. — Cameron Young may be 15 over at the 2024 U.S. Open, but few have hit a better approach shot on 18 than he did to close his weekend.

12:30 p.m. — Neil Shipley was the low amateur at the PGA Championship. He is hoping to earn that title at the U.S. Open as well, as he struck first in the battle with Luke Clanton for the lowest score.

11:45 a.m. — A couple of holes will be particularly important to golfers today. The No. 5 hole has been the easiest hole all week by a lot, as the Par 5 has seen numerous players make eagles. The No. 6 hole is among the more accessible Par 3 holes today, so accurate golfers will have birdie opportunities at that hole.

Any golfers who can shoot under-par on those two holes will position themselves well to move up the leaderboard.

11:30 a.m. — The morning field at the U.S. Open has little chance of challenging Bryson DeChambeau, Patrick Cantlay, Rory McIlroy and Matthieu Pavon atop the major’s leaderboard. That said, they are giving golf fans a good idea of how the course will play.

At present, Pinehurst’s greens are playing faster than ever, and landing the ball in the right spot on approach will be paramount to success. Three golfers in the morning wave have shot 2 under early on — S.H. Kim (finished), Matt Kuchar (through 10) and Tim Widing (through 5) — so that will give those trailing DeChambeau by a few strokes some hope as they look to unseat the LIV Golf star.
