With under three months to go before the most significant cannabis industry event in the State of Florida takes place, Cannabis LAB Conference & Expo founder, Robert Friedman has released the conference agenda. The two-day event will host a number of industry relevant panel discussions, workshops and industry mixers. With the pending adult-use vote on the November ballot, organizers are keen to attract aspirational cannabis business owners and ancillary service providers to the conversation.

The Florida cannabis market is currently valued at $2 billion with medical marijuana dispensed only with a prescription and distributed through highly regulated retailers. This November, Floridians have the opportunity to allow adults the freedom of personal use, which will bring the estimated market value to between “$4.9 billion to $6.1 billion in sales during the first year of implementation (June 2025 through May 2026)” according to Headset a leading data firm in the industry.  In 2023, DeSantis’ own analysts projected the “Florida Marijuana Ballot Measure Would Net Up To $431 Million In Annual Tax Revenue”. Recent polls indicate the measure has enough support to pass the 60% threshold needed for adult-use access and sales to become law. Florida Governor and the Florida Republican party have come out in opposition to the measure, with outdated and unproven platitudes about rampant public use and the odor of cannabis damaging the lives of all Floridians. Factors the governing body will have the capacity to regulate much like other forward-thinking States. 

The sole Republican thus far to stand in opposition is Sarasota GOP state Sen. and former Republican Party of Florida Chairman Joe Gruters. “To me it’s a realization of where we are, where we’re at as a society, what people are doing, what’s happened with medical marijuana over all, and I think it’s just been an evolving decision to which I said, ‘Let’s come out and support it. Let’s try to help this win and let’s get ahead of this to make sure we do it right.’” He stated in a recent interview with the Phoenix.

While Democratic support is coming in with a number of Commissioners and Senators voicing support for adult freedoms. The vote Yes on 3 initiative is non-partisan, much like the plant. Lead by Smart and Safe Florida, the campaign has raised over 66 million dollars to date. 

The Cannabis LAB Conference agenda reflects the anticipation of a positive outcome in November and an increased demand for industry participation. The opening session will set the tone of the conference, launching straight into a discussion on “the evolving cannabis landscape in Florida, the transition from medical to adult use, and implications for stakeholders.” The rest of the days activities focus on high-level industry information with discussions with CEOs on their outlook for Florida in 2025, cannabis finance and taxes, public relations and marketing, and the legal landscape the industry operates in, now and in coming months. 

The second day of the conference reaches out to the broader industry with panels on reclassification, grow operations, insurance, and banking. Rounding off the sessions will be a diversity panel, discussing “approaches to fostering diversity and inclusion within the cannabis industry.”

The final panel will bring hemp industry stakeholders to the table with a dedicated panel intended to explore the regulatory landscape surrounding hemp and hemp-derived products.
