Artificial Intelligence in Moving Fast

As a Tool for Doctors

This week’s AI Action Summit in Paris highlights future developments in AI, but the technology is AI is already transforming healthcare, especially in medical imaging, where it’s helping detect fractures and even cancers like breast cancer. In a Paris radiology clinic, an AI-powered computer now plays a key role in analyzing mammograms.

But does AI outperform expert radiologists? Not quite. Studies show it doesn’t catch more anomalies than a trained human, but it acts as an essential second opinion. “Things like phone calls or fatigue can distract us during the day. AI ensures we don’t miss anything,” Dr. Lenczner adds. “It can waste time and cause worry,” acknowledges Dr. Christine Salem.

Still, while AI isn’t perfect, it’s improving rapidly—and its role in healthcare is only expected to grow. One thing we have to look out for is that AI is not always kind to Black People, We have to monitor where it does on our own. For now, it’s proving to be a powerful ally in the fight for better, more accurate diagnoses.
