Cleveland to host major Black meeting professionals conference in 2028

CLEVELAND, Ohio — Cleveland has been selected to host the 2028 National Coalition of Black Meeting Professionals Annual Conference, Destination Cleveland announced Thursday. The event, scheduled for Nov. 29 through Dec. 2, 2028, is expected to bring approximately 550 attendees to the city.
The conference is the largest annual gathering for Black meeting professionals and attracts planners and association leaders who make decisions about where their organizations hold meetings and events.
“This is another big win for Cleveland,” said David Gilbert, president and CEO of Destination Cleveland. “We can showcase the city as a meetings host to key decision makers who have significant buying power and influence on booking future business in Cleveland.”
The announcement comes one year after Cleveland hosted another influential group of meeting planners — the American Society of Association Executives, who brought 5,000 event organizers to Northeast Ohio last August.
The city is also hosting two influential predominantly Black organizations this summer, including the National Urban League Annual Conference next week and the annual convention of the National Association of Black Journalists in August.
Kevin Richardson, chairman of the annual conference board for the National Coalition of Black Meeting Professionals, cited Cleveland’s commitment to diversity as a factor in the selection. “Our organization has consistently aligned with cities that share our core values, and Cleveland continues to show a strong commitment to recognizing the economic power of diverse communities,” Richardson said.
