Rockstar Games’ ‘Grand Theft Auto 6’ Release Date Delayed Yet Again — Here’s What We Know

As anticipation continues to build for “Grand Theft Auto 6” (“GTA 6” or “GTA VI”), one of the most anticipated video game releases in recent memory, new reports suggest that fans will have to wait a bit longer.

Rockstar Games’ ‘GTA’ 6 Release Date Announced

According to Reuters, publisher Take-Two Interactive has pushed the release date for Rockstar Games’ next major title, “GTA 6,” to Nov. 19, 2026.

The announcement represents the second public delay, postponing the launch from May 2026, the outlet reports. Take-Two’s stock dipped about 6% following the news, but industry analysts told Reuters the delay could actually strengthen the game’s commercial potential. Releasing during the holiday season could align “GTA 6″ with peak consumer spending and major console promotions.

“Releasing it closer to the holiday season allows for more opportunities to bundle with the tail end of current-gen consoles, making it more valuable to Take-Two because of the marketing dollars the console makers will be willing to invest,” said Joost van Dreunen, games professor at New York University’s Stern School of Business.

While the postponement disappointed investors and fans eager for an earlier launch, analysts said the financial impact is limited. Research firm Jefferies noted, per Reuters, that sales forecasts would likely just shift by two fiscal quarters rather than decrease overall.

The outlet reports that delays have become more common across the gaming industry as developers aim to meet rising player expectations and manage growing production costs. Michael Pachter, managing director of strategic planning at Wedbush Securities, told Reuters that the decision to delay could help maintain the series’ high standards.

“They (Take-Two) need the game to be great,” Pachter said. “More time makes that more likely.”

The extended timeline could also help Take-Two secure a stronger position during a competitive period for major gaming releases.

Still, the delay sparked discussion among fans online. On Reddit, one user wrote per Reuters, “I was cautiously optimistic it would hit the May date but totally expected it to slip to late 2026. Question is… does it slip to 2027?” Others said they would rather wait for a finished, polished game than see it released too soon.

With the release now scheduled for November 2026, Rockstar Games and Take-Two now have extra time to finalize “GTA 6” to meet expectations.
