Angel Reese Held A 6-Week STEM Program To Empower Female Student-Athletes In Partnership With 2K Foundations – AfroTech

Angel Reese returned to her hometown to empower young girls in STEM.

The WNBA player who represents the Atlanta Dream teamed up with 2K Foundations — the philanthropic arm of video game company 2K — which supports STEM education, access to mentorship, and sports programming, according to its website.

The partnership entailed a six-week STEM initiative for female student-athletes at Crossroads Middle School in Baltimore with nonprofit STEM organizations Living Classrooms Foundation and Project Scientist. This was a full-circle moment for Reese, whose hometown is Randallstown, MD, in Baltimore County.

The partnership aligns with the Angel C. Reese Foundation, which aims to expand access to sports, education, and financial literacy, as AFROTECH™ previously told you.

Building on that mission, the partnership created learning opportunities in coding, robotics design, 3D printing, STEM-based sports projects, career exploration, and skill-building, according to a press release shared with AFROTECH™.

“The Living Classrooms’ partnership with Angel Reese, the Angel C. Reese Foundation and 2K Foundations reflects a shared belief that girls thrive when they are given access, encouragement, and real-world opportunities to explore who they can become,” said President and CEO of Living Classrooms Foundation James Piper Bond in a press statement. “By investing in STEM education for our female Crossroads scholar-athletes, we are expanding what’s possible – helping young women build confidence, critical-thinking skills, and pathways to bold careers.”

Dr. Patrice S. Johnson, CEO of Project Scientist, also said:

“What starts today with 2K Foundations and the Angel C. Reese Foundation is not a moment—it’s a movement. The MeBound STEM Leadership Initiative with Project Scientist is a long-term partnership built to place girls at the center of STEM—leading with confidence, courage, and brilliance.”

To celebrate the program, a “ME Bound: The Science Behind Rebounds” workshop was hosted with curriculum by Project Scientist and instruction by Living Classrooms. The session recapped Reese’s interests in basketball, health, wellness, and fashion, and how they intersect with scientific principles.
