Porsha Williams Took A Portion Of Her Second Check From ‘The Real Housewives Of Atlanta’ To Launch What’s Become A $10M Luxury Hair Brand – AfroTech

Reality television or not, entrepreneurship was always in the cards for Porsha Williams.

Reality TV

Before making her debut on The Real Housewives of Atlantafor its fifth season in 2012, Williams was already a business owner. In a conversation onForbes Talks Shop, she revealed that her mother had owned child care centers since Williams was two. At 24, she began following in her mother’s footsteps.

“Twenty-four is when I started my very first child care center myself. So I’ve always been in business,” she told Forbes. “I think that since I transitioned from being a child care center owner and then closed it to being a wife, then straight to reality TV, people don’t know the business side of me. But that’s what I lean on. That’s what I’ll do. Even when reality TV is gone. So for me, being an entrepreneur is very important. It’s something that when you have a dream or you have an idea, you build off of it. You work hard, and you stick to it.”

“The Real Housewives of Atlanta” gave Williams wider exposure, which she has continued to use as a launchpad to grow her business empire beyond the screen. She recognizes an opportunity to leverage the exposure to build something of her own.

“I realized I have this huge audience and I wanna be able to monetize this,” she explained.

Go Naked Hair

She also noted that she was looking for a way to revamp her self-confidence and identity while navigating a divorce in 2013. That same year, and a year after Williams appeared on Real Housewives, she and her sister Lauren launched Go Naked Hair, according to its website.

The luxury hair company sells human-hair wigs, human-braiding hair, frontals, lashes, and more using “the best virgin hair,” per the company’s website.

“I took some of that check from the second show and used it to start Go Naked Hair. And it has been successful ever since. I’ve never had a brick-and-mortar; it’s always been online, but I took a year and a half to find the perfect vendor. So we have 100% virgin hair. I mean, we have the best of the best, and it’s just been getting better over the years,” she noted.

What’s more, Williams also revealed the venture has crossed $10 million in sales since its inception.

Williams’ other ventures include Pampered by Porsha sheets, a lifestyle line that carries double-brushed microfiber sheets. It was her mother who introduced her to the idea, Williams told Forbes.

Aspirations To Becomeing A Billionaire

Williams told Forbes that she aspires to become a billionaire and has the right partners to realize her dream.

“I will be a billionaire. I’m building a major lifestyle brand. I do believe it. I have received that from God years ago actually. I am just positioning my companies to be able to do that, to be able to scale to that level. And I have the right partners … I have the right people in place to make it happen. And I actually have my life set up in a way where I have time to do that. I have time to dedicate more to my companies and expanding them in different ways. So I would have to say just going to that next level as a business mogul,” she told the outlet.
