Googlebook: Google’s AI-Driven ‘Intelligence System’ Laptop Built On Android And ChromeOS – AfroTech

Google is repositioning its software strategy from an operating system model to what it calls an “intelligence system,” rethinking laptops with the launch of the Googlebook.

According to a blog post from Alex Kushcer, Google’s senior director of laptops and tablets, the Googlebook is the first laptop designed completely for Gemini Intelligence. The device builds on the foundation of the Chromebook lineup and expands its integration with Android apps and Google’s Gemini AI assistant, aiming to create a more unified experience across devices.

Inside Googlebook

One of the major features of the Googlebook starts with the cursor, which Google says hasn’t seen much meaningful change over the years, despite being one of the most frequently used tools on a laptop.

The Googlebook will feature a Gemini-integrated Magic Pointer. To use it, users simply move the cursor over items on the screen, activating Gemini to provide quick, contextual suggestions.

The Googlebook also includes “Create Your Widget,” which lets users generate custom widgets with simple prompts. Gemini can browse the internet or link with Google apps like Gmail and Calendar to create a personalized dashboard. For instance, it could plan a family trip by pulling together flight and hotel details, restaurant reservations, and a countdown — all in one centralized, helpful space.

Google designed the Googlebook for seamless operations and use across all devices, notably laptops and phones, per the blog post. Users can run apps installed on their Android phone directly from the laptop without ever leaving the screen.

It will also be easier to access files directly from a phone through the Googlebook file browser. Quick Access will allow users to directly view, search, or insert files from their phone to their laptop.

The laptops, which will launch in fall 2026, will come in various shapes and sizes from hardware makers including Acer, Asus, Dell, HP, and Lenovo, per Kushcer’s blog post.
