Meta Testing ‘Series’ Feature Among Select Creators To Release Episodic Reels – AfroTech

Meta is leaning into longer-form content.

The tech giant will be rolling out the “Series” feature for Reels on Instagram and Facebook, according to TechCrunch. A handful of creators will be selected as the first to test-run the feature using old and new Reels. These reels will give creators the chance to group content into episodic stories, TechCrunch states. Series will have a hub on each creator’s profile where users can view the content as a single collection, Time Now reports.

The new feature aligns with Meta’s strategy of leaning into long-form content. This update follows the launch of the Instagram for TV app in December 2025, which embraces short vertical content by allowing users to watch creators’ reels on their big screens, according to a press release.

“I don’t think short-form vertical content is going to be enough to succeed on TV. What we’re thinking about is, how do we best serve the creators who do short-form content, but also do long-form content,” said Tessa Lyons, Instagram’s vice president of product, according to Social Media Today.

“Instagram will be a unique part of creators’ long-form strategy in addition to their short-form strategy. A piece of that is going to be podcasts, a piece of that is going to be Live, a piece of that is going to be short-form dramas. I think we’re living in an exciting time with these formats and giving creators more ways to tell their stories,” Lyons continued, according to a Substack shared by Lia Haberman.

Meta is exploring how to monetize the feature, but hasn’t revealed further details, according to TechCrunch.

In the short-form drama space, TikTok is already seeing success. It partnered with Issa Rae’s HOORAE Media for a first-of-its-kind deal to launch exclusive micro-series content on TikTok and its microdramas hub PineDrama, according to a press release. The series “Screen Time” debuted on TikTok on April 29, 2026. The first 27 episodes were nearly one minute long, with the second act released on May 22, according to TheWrap.

It generated 75 million views in its first week on PineDrama and TikTok, per the outlet.
