Meta Rolls Out Feature For Instagram Users To Create AI-Generated Content Using Photos From Other Public Accounts, Here’s How To Opt Out – AfroTech

Meta has rolled out a new feature that allows users to create AI-generated content using other users’ content.
Muse Image
The company has announced Muse Image. This marks Meta Superintelligence’s first image-generation model, available in Meta AI, that is described as a “creative partner that knows your world,” according to a press release. Content created through Meta AI can be downloaded and shared to the feed, story, or chat on WhatsApp.
“Whether you want to place your pet in a famous painting or combine a selfie with a vacation photo to create a custom postcard, Meta AI handles the complex reasoning for you so the final visual matches your vision perfectly,” the press release noted.
Meta said users will be able to use the feature not only on their own profiles but also using content on other public Instagram profiles.
“Whether you want to design a custom event invitation, mock up a collaborative creative concept, or generate a personalized graphic, tagging a username lets Meta AI use public photos to build a visual that’s ready to post,” the company said in the release.
Looking ahead, Meta said it will be bringing Muse Image to more countries and is also working on Muse Video.
It is noted that users will have control over how their content is tagged for AI creation. It also states there will be an option to opt out. Some users are showing skepticism towards the feature, including user Tayhoosier, who said on X, “Immediately switched my account from public to private.”

Instagram letting people generate AI images from someone else’s public photos is a privacy nightmare disguised as a feature.
Just because a photo is public doesn’t mean it should become training material or a prompt for anyone’s imagination! pic.twitter.com/imwjujEaO6

Per TechCrunch, users can go to their profile and click the three lines in the top-right corner. From there, click Sharing and reusing, then find the line that reads “Allow people to create with and reuse your content,” then turn it off for posts and reels.
