Why Rod Wave Believes His Best Investment Was Starting His Touring Company – AfroTech

Rod Wave has revealed his best investment.

The St. Petersburg, FL, rapper has more than 32 billion streams on Spotify alone. His albums have also reached No. 1 on the Billboard 200 several times, including “Nostalgia” (2023), “Beautiful Mind” (2022) and “SoulFly” (2021), Lobby Observer reports. He is set to release his next album, “Don’t Look Down,” on Aug. 28, according to Billboard.

He’s already planning to tour the album starting in September through his promotion company MAINSTAY Touring.

In an interview on the “Club Shay Shay” podcast, Rod Wave said he is still chasing his dreams, and his aspirations have only broadened as he expands his network and learns more about the music business.

“I feel like every day, every day as I meet new people and get deeper into business, learning how things operate, learning how the world works, just my dreams, they get bigger and bigger and bigger … No matter what chapter in my life I was in, my dreams was never normal,” he shared on the podcast.

Rod Wave adds that he is grateful for the journey and for being paid for his artistry.  He credits a major part of his success to Uncle Dee, his late uncle who also served as his mentor and manager, Rap Up reports.

“Without Uncle Dee, it wouldn’t be no Rod Wave. Wouldn’t be no five years platinum. Wouldn’t be all these millions of dollars. Wouldn’t be all these kids and all these charities,” he expressed on “Club Shay Shay.”

Another part of his success has also been building his tour business. He started with $500 concerts before getting to the level he is at today, he said, which includes feats such as $14 million in merchandise sales alone, AFROTECH™ previously reported.

He admits he has had some wins and has also “failed tremendously” at times, all of which has allowed him to understand every angle of the touring business. The blueprint has also benefited Kanye West and his team. Rod Wave’s company booked and promoted his shows at Sofi Stadium in Los Angeles, which sold out.

“I showed them the insides of my business. And then I showed them what the plan was. They made a business decision. They felt like I could do it. They felt like me and my team could pull it off and we showed them we could,” Rod Wave explained on the podcast.

Overall, Rod Wave said the touring company has been his best investment.

“That’s the most on paper value right now,” he explained.
