Nick Cannon wants to ensure his children are set up for lifelong financial security when he’s gone.
When it comes to building generational wealth, it’s not just about creating businesses, accumulating assets, or securing ownership. It’s also about being strategic about what happens to that wealth after death and ensuring it is protected and passed down to future generations. This is why estate planning is important, Cannon shared during Invest Fest 2026.
By definition, estate planning determines how assets and specific wishes will be handled, distributed, and carried out after death or incapacitation, according to the National Council on Aging. Estate planning is not simply a will. It also determines who will call the shots with medical decisions for you or how the grandchildren’s inheritance will be protected.
Cannon recognizes estate planning is synonymous with legacy. He has 12 children, People reported.
“One thing I never ever really wanted to deal with but currently have to deal with even more so is estate planning, and estate planning and legacy go hand in hand,” he said during Invest Fest 2026. “When you do have something you want to leave it, and it’s not always even financial, just even the experience of where we are. Everybody knows I got a a lot of kids to leave stuff to.”
He added, “We joke about it but the people that kind of understood that in a financial sense was like the John D. Rockefellers and stuff because having trusts, understanding what trusts are, having understanding what estates are — I honestly want to make sure that whatever I leave you, it is important to make sure that every single one of my family members are taken care of. That’s what I started out to do, and that’s what I’m going to finish doing and making sure that I put my family first. However big my family is, they all going to be all right,” he added.
