While it’s not technically October baseball just yet, the ethos will be there Tuesday as MLB opens postseason play with four Wild Card games.
Best-of-three series open around the country, from Braves vs. Phillies in early afternoon Eastern time to Padres vs. Cubs with the late game.
The Padres-Cubs and Yankees-Red Sox matchups are repeats from the Wild Card round a year ago, which eventually saw the Cubs and Yankees move on. Taking Game 1 isn’t a must to advance, but there’s no wiggle room in a short series like this so teams will be desperate to get the early edge Tuesday.
