After Accepting His 2021 Rams Contract In Bitcoin, Odell Beckham Jr.’s Payout Has Now Doubled

Odell Beckham Jr. has no regrets with going against the grain.
Decision To Accept Bitcoin In 2021
As AFROTECH™ previously told you, Beckham made the decision in 2021 to accept bitcoin as the form of payment for his contract at the time with the Los Angeles Rams, in partnership with Cash App. In doing so, he followed in the footsteps of Russell Okung, who was the first player in the NFL to be paid in bitcoin. In fact, Okung reportedly agreed to receive half of his $13 million salary at the time ($6.5 million) in the form of bitcoin, which was later worth $20 million by 2024, according to Bleacher Report. As for Beckham’s investment, he reportedly received a $750,000 payout from the Rams, which was converted into bitcoin, a separate article from the Bleacher Report mentions.
To commemorate the announcement, Beckham Jr. also gave money to his fans in the form of bitcoin.
“It’s a NEW ERA and to kick that off I’m hyped to announce that I’m taking my new salary in Bitcoin thanks to Cash App,” Beckham Jr. wrote on X in November 2021. “To ALL MY FANS out there, no matter where you are, THANK YOU! I’m giving back a total of $1M in BTC right now too. Drop your $cashtag with #OBJBTC and follow Cash App NOW.”
Fast forward to 2025, and it appears Beckham’s decision is paying off. Bleacher Report mentions bitcoin reached an “all-time high by trading at more than $120,000,” and this is reflected in a screenshot shared by Beckham on X. It also notes his $750,000 payout has now doubled.
“Sooooo bitcoin is at an ALL TIME high today…safe to say we still happy with our decision Lets see what crypto week talkin about,” Beckham wrote in a July 14 post on the platform owned by Elon Musk.
On the same day, Darren Rovell, founder of Cllct, stated, per Bleacher Report, that the deal is worth $1.39 million today, and after California taxes Beckham could cash out with $1.01 million.

On June 13, 2025, Beckham had already doubled down on his decision writing in a post, “People doubted me when I accepted my @CashApp paycheck in Bitcoin. Jokes on you.”
