Are You Eligible For The AT&T Data Breach Settlement? The Deadline To File A Claim Is Approaching

AT&T will pay out $177 million to settle a class-action lawsuit over two customer data breaches revealed last year — and the deadline to file a claim is approaching, according to CNET.
In one breach, which occurred in 2019 but wasn’t reported until March 30, 2024, hackers released sensitive information, including “a combination of names, addresses, telephone numbers, email addresses, dates of birth, account passcodes, billing account numbers, and Social Security numbers,” on the dark web, according to the court-authorized settlement website managed by the Kroll Settlement Administration LLC.
Another breach, disclosed on July 12, 2024, involved the illegal download of limited data on April 14, 2024, including customer details and phone numbers linked to affected accounts. The exposed information may have included call data of current and former AT&T customers, such as “the telephone numbers with which those customers interacted, counts of those interactions, aggregate call durations for a day or month, and for a small subset of individuals, one or more cell site identification numbers associated with the interactions,” notes the Kroll Settlement Administration LLC website.
In March 2025, the parties in the federal lawsuits over both breaches reached a joint settlement, with AT&T not admitting any liability or wrongdoing, per the website.
Are You Eligible For The AT&T Settlement?
Two groups are eligible for the settlement: the AT&T 1 Settlement Class, whose data was affected in the 2019 breach, and the AT&T 2 Settlement Class, those affected in the April 2024 breach.
The amount each person receives will depend on the total number of claims filed by affected individuals — the more claims, the smaller the payout per individual.
Members of the AT&T 1 Settlement Class may receive up to $5,000, notes the website. They can either claim a Documented Loss Cash Payment or qualify for one of two tiered payments. Individuals whose Social Security Number (SSN) was stolen are eligible for five times the Tier 2 payment. Those whose data was exposed but not their SSN qualify for a Tier 2 payment.
“A Tier Cash Payment is a pro rata share of the AT&T 1 Net Settlement Fund cash (the funds left after payment of Settlement Administration Costs, Attorneys’ Fees, Costs, and Service Awards),” per the Kroll Settlement Administration LLC website.
AT&T 1 Settlement Class members must provide documentation for traceable losses that happened during or after 2019.
Members of the AT&T 2 Settlement Class may receive up to $2,500, notes the release. Some will qualify for a Documented Loss Cash Payment, while others will receive a Tier 3 Cash Payment. To receive the former payment type, documentation must show traceable losses on or after April 14, 2024.
The Tier 3 Cash Payment is a pro rata share of the AT&T 2 Net Settlement Fund, notes the website.
Some individuals may have had data exposed in both incidents and can submit claims for both.
When Is The Deadline To File A Claim?
Eligible individuals must submit a claim online using the AT&T Data Incident Settlement Claim Form, including any required documentation, by Thursday, Dec. 18, 2025. Claims can also be mailed, but they must be postmarked by that same date.
Those who wish to opt out of the settlement but retain their right to bring any other lawsuit related to the matter must mail their documents or postmark them by Monday, Nov. 17, 2025. The same goes for those who object to the settlement or plan to attend the final hearing.
There is no set date for when settlements will be distributed, as a federal judge must first grant final approval. The court is scheduled to hold the final approval hearing on Thursday, Jan. 15, 2026.
“Settlement Class Member Benefits to Settlement Class Members will be made only if the Court approves the Settlement and after any possible appeals are resolved,” the settlement website notes.
