Austin’s Terry Black’s BBQ expands to Nashville with first out-of-state location

Austin’s tourist gem Terry Black’s BBQ, which just received an honorable mention nod on Texas Monthly’s Top 50 BBQ in Texas list, is packing up its smokers and heading to Nashville. For years, Austinites have hungrily lined up around the block on Barton Springs Rd., often well before the doors even creak open, for a taste of Terry Black’s brisket, ribs, and all the fixin’s. Now, it seems their not-so-secret barbecue is embarking on its first out-of-state mission.

Terry Black’s plants its first post beyond Texas in Nashville

The news, initially reported by the Nashville Business Journal and Nashville Post, confirms that an LLC linked to Mike Black of Lockhart (one half of the duo behind Black Family Hospitality) has snagged a four-parcel site in Nashville’s Germantown neighborhood. That’s right, folks, the Black brothers, Mark and Mike, who started this whole barbecue empire in Austin back in 2014, are officially expanding their Texas-sized footprint beyond the Lone Star State.

While we’ve seen Terry Black’s sprout up across Texas in Lockhart, Dallas, Fort Worth, and Waco — and even a location set for Houston — this Nashville venture marks a new frontier. The homegrown barbecue is going national.

So, to the loyal Austin patrons, keep those lines long — and to Nashville — prepare yourselves for a taste of Texas that’s worth every single minute of the wait. You’ll thank us later. Just don’t say we didn’t warn you about the queues.
