Billionaire Strive Masiyiwa’s Cassava Technologies Launches AI Platform To Transform How Africa Accesses Advanced Models

Cassava Technologies, the global digital services company founded by Zimbabwean entrepreneur Strive Masiyiwa, has launched Cassava AI Multi-Model Exchange (CAIMEx), a platform designed to give mobile network operators (MNOs) across Africa access to multiple AI systems through a single interface.

According to a press release, CAIMEx is the first platform on the continent to aggregate models from providers including OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google. The system allows operators to choose the tools that meet their needs, supports tasks ranging from rapid-response applications to more complex reasoning, and is designed to incorporate new models as they become available.

“With its growing AI ecosystem Africa has the potential to be more than a consumer of AI technologies imported to the continent,” Ahmed El Beheiry, CEO of Cassava AI, said in the press release.

“Through CAIMEx, Cassava is creating a bridge between global innovation and African ambition, giving every MNO the ability to offer subscribers world-class AI tools and LLMs easily and affordably,” El Beheiry continued.

To meet data protection requirements across African markets, CAIMEx is hosted within the company’s regional AI factories. The company noted in the press release that this setup keeps data within the continent while supporting compliance with national regulations and providing consistent performance for operators using high-compute AI systems.

Cassava Technologies, according to its website, operates in more than 90 countries across Africa, the Middle East, Latin America, the U.S., and Europe. Its business units include Cassava AI, Liquid Intelligent Technologies, Liquid Cloud and Cyber Security, Africa Data Centres, and Sasai Fintech. The company describes its services as part of an integrated digital ecosystem designed to support enterprise operations and technological growth.

The launch of CAIMEx follows other AI investments by Cassava Technologies. In September 2025, the company announced plans to build five AI factories across Africa within the next year, Billionaires Africa reports. In addition, Cassava Technologies formed a $720 million investment partnership with NVIDIA to expand high-performance computing resources that support AI-related infrastructure, as AFROTECH™ previously reported.
