Black America Reacts To Eagles Blowout And Kendrick Lamar’s Superbowl Performance (And Those Jeans)

Black excellence was on full display at Super Bowl LIX as the Philadelphia Eagles soared past the Kansas City Chiefs in a stunning 40-14 victory. Jalen Hurts, who was named Super Bowl MVP, delivered a masterful performance, throwing for 221 yards and two touchdowns while adding 72 rushing yards and a score, according to The Bleacher Report. And while Hurts was making history on the field, Kendrick Lamar was creating an unforgettable cultural moment at halftime—some say a revolutionary moment. Then there was those flare jeans.

Jalen Hurts has long been proving doubters wrong, and on the biggest stage in sports, he silenced critics once and for all. His leadership and resilience were on full display, guiding the Eagles to their second Super Bowl title in franchise history.

Hurts’ post-game celebration with his fiancée, Bry Burrows, was another moment that resonated deeply within the Black community. Their love story traces back to their days at Alabama, according to The Daily Mail.

Kendrick Lamar took the halftime stage with a performance that was both politically charged and deeply personal. With a set list that paid homage to his roots in Compton, California, Lamar’s show was a mix of visual storytelling, lyricism, and cultural references that resonated with millions while facing backlash mainly from some white viewers. Serena Williams even brought back her iconic crip walk, a nod to her 2012 Olympic gold medal celebration for which she was chastised, Men’s Journal reported. Williams also got to participate in a clapback to her ex Drake as she did her dance during Lamar’s performance on “Not Like Us,” his highly success dis track targeting Drake.

And then, there were those jeans. Fans couldn’t stop talking about Lamar’s denim choice, sparking memes, fashion debates, and an unexpected trend in flare jeans sales. His flare jeans were from the French luxury fashion house Celine. The jeans were the “Marco” style in dark union wash denim. Lamar wore a size 29 women’s; his usual size is 33. The jeans were so popular that they sold out. The jeans were part of a collection that cost $1,200.
