Vice President Kamala Harris and her running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, are preparing to face off against former President Donald Trump and Republican VP candidate JD Vance this November. After four years of unmet promises from the Republican Party and the Democratic struggle to mend the damage from the previous administration, Americans are yearning for change and optimism as they grapple with high inflation, significant job losses, and stagnant wages.

Voters are energized by Walz’s fresh perspective and hopeful outlook, which complement Harris’ spirited and dynamic approach. At 60, Walz brings a wealth of experience to the table with his extensive background in suburban and rural advocacy, coupled with a progressive and patriotic vision.

His diverse qualifications, including his service as a military veteran, former public school teacher, and six-term congressman, further enhance his appeal. Now in his sixth year of an eight-year term as governor of Minnesota, Walz is well-positioned to contribute to a strong Democratic bid for victory against the Trump-Vance ticket.

As Tim Walz vies for the presidency, he’s already contending with fierce criticism from the right.

Trump and his campaign have claimed that the Minnesota governor’s push for a carbon-free agenda, including stricter emissions standards for gas-powered vehicles and policies to extend voting rights to convicted felons, would “unleash hell on earth.”

Additionally, some Republicans and political commentator Van Jones have suggested that Kamala Harris, married to Jewish attorney Doug Emhoff, selected Walz over Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro as a gesture to placate antisemitic factions within the Democratic Party.

Vance has also launched attacks on Walz’s 24-year military career. Despite the GOP’s professed support for the troops, Vance has criticized Walz for supposedly leaving the Army National Guard to avoid deployment to Iraq and for allegedly fabricating combat experience. However, these accusations have been debunked and are baseless.

Minnesota-based group, Black Visions, supports a Harris/Walz administration.

Drama aside, Harris and Walz are focused on their goals as the November election approaches, with many Americans supporting their bid. Black Visions, a Minnesota-based social group fighting for healing and liberation for Black communities told NewsOne that a Harris/Walz administration would be “significantly less harmful to the country than a Trump/Vance administration.”

The group praised Harris and Walz for their shared commitment to enacting stricter gun control laws, implementing police reform, and tackling climate change—all critical issues for supporting and protecting communities of color.

“Further, the selection of Governor Walz as the VP nominee has seemingly amplified the excitement that President Biden’s campaign sunset and subsequent VP Harris’ endorsement created.”

Black Visions also expressed hope that the Democratic duo would advance meaningful reparations for descendants of enslaved Africans and Native Americans. Several states, including California and Rhode Island, have recently established reparations committees focused on providing cash and homeownership support to those affected by slavery.

Earlier this month, officials in Tulsa, Alabama, also took steps to assist survivors of the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre and their descendants by forming a reparations committee that would assess ways to financially support those impacted by the horrific event.

Additionally, Black Visions urged an end to the Democrat’s support for the genocide of the Palestinian people and called for the return of hostages taken by Hamas.

“If the Harris/Walz campaign is victorious in November and they, in conjunction with the US Congress, immediately begin to institute the kinds of policies needed to 1.) combat climate change and end environmental injustice, 2.) improve the economy in a manner that can be felt by all communities – particularly communities of color, 3.) move us towards safer communities with well-funded alternatives to armed police and prisons, 4.) implement meaningful reparations for descendants of enslaved Africans and Native Americans, and 5.) stop supporting the genocide of the Palestinian people and support the return of the hostages kidnapped by Hamas, perhaps Governor Walz can be forgiven for taking credit for the critical achievements of activists, organized community, unions, political organizations and allied elected officials,” the organization wrote.

We hope Harris and Walz can meet the American people’s demands.
