Family-owned business marks 100 years with roaring 1920s celebration at Black Country Living Museum

Founded in 1925, A. Perry Ltd began as a humble hardware merchant in the West Midlands. From modest beginnings, it has grown into a multi-brand, multi-channel manufacturer and distributor, now recognised nationally and internationally for its unwavering commitment to quality, service, and British heritage. The company’s product ranges span agricultural and equestrian equipment, gate hardware, fixings and fasteners, and decorative garden products.

Still family-owned and run after four generations, A. Perry Ltd remains anchored by its founding principles: integrity, reliability, and a deep-rooted connection to the communities it serves. With manufacturing facilities in both the UK and India, the company has continued to invest in innovation while preserving the craftsmanship and customer-first approach that has defined its success for a century.

The event was the perfect opportunity to celebrate the staff—past and present—who have shaped the company over the last 100 years. Former employees spanning multiple generations returned to share memories and reconnect, including several who had worked at the company over 50 years ago, during founder Arthur Perry’s time. One former staff member, who joined as a young girl in the 1950s, fondly recalled her early days and the lasting impression the Perry family made on her. Her story—and many others—reflected the strong legacy, loyalty, and family values that continue to define A. Perry’s history.

“Reaching a century in business is a truly remarkable achievement, and tonight is a moment to reflect on that journey.” Managing Director, Guy Perry states as he takes to the floor for his speech on the evening “It’s rare for a company to reach 100 years, particularly in one family and as I stand here, I feel an immense sense of pride and gratitude for everything we have built together.”
The centenary celebration transported guests back to the decade when it all began, with a Peaky Blinders-inspired 1920s dress code that saw stunning period attire on display. From sharp three-piece suits and flat caps to flapper dresses and faux fur, every guest fully embraced the theme, adding to the magic of the night.

“It was a night that perfectly captured the values of Perry – heritage, family, and a commitment to doing things properly,” said Guy. “To celebrate 100 years surrounded by so many people who’ve been part of our journey was incredibly moving. This milestone is not only a moment of pride but a platform for future ambition.”

The event was not just a look back, but a celebration of the future. As the company steps into its second century, it does so with the same ethos that’s carried it from a single shopfront in 1925 to one of Britain’s best-known names in the industry today.
