Goodr, A Black Woman-Owned Sustainable Food Waste Startup, Heads To Chicago With Its First Free Grocery Store Located In A Hospital

Goodr will be bringing its free grocery store to the windy city.
“Our free grocery stores began as a vision in 2021 with our first location in Atlanta, that store is still operating today! Now, we’ve opened inside a hospital to serve essential workers like janitors, food service staff, and support teams, and will soon expand to patients most in need,” she wrote on Instagram. “Here’s why this matters: in Illinois, nearly 60% of food-insecure households don’t qualify for SNAP because of the income cliff. That means people who are working and still struggling to put food on the table fall through the cracks every day.”
She added, “I could never overstate the true need for Goodr, especially at a time like this. And no matter how hard it has been for us, every new store launch, every new customer, every delivery, reminds me that the work we do matters so much. To President [Michelle] Blakely and the Advocate Trinity Hospital team, thank you for trusting us with this mission. Chicago, this is just the beginning!”
