Google Vids Now Lets You Unlock Select Advanced Gemini AI Tools For Free — Here’s How

Google is making it easier for anyone with a Gmail account to create polished, AI-powered videos through its Google Vids product.
According to a Nov. 17 blog post from the tech company, advanced Gemini features, previously limited to paid users, are now available to all, letting creators add AI-generated voiceovers, trim silences and filler words, and enhance visuals with built-in AI image editing.
To help users get started, Google has released a series of instructional videos on YouTube.
One introduction video shows how teams can use the platform for training materials, customer-facing content, project updates, recruiting, and marketing communications. Casual users can also create personalized videos, from vacation highlights to birthday greetings, without needing advanced editing skills, as the blog post notes.
According to the same video, Google Vids can be accessed through the Google Apps launcher in Gmail, the “New” button in Google Drive, or by visiting vids.google.com. Typing vids.new in a browser opens the Getting Started screen, where creators can generate draft videos using Gemini by providing prompts and Google Drive content. The AI suggests scenes, voiceovers, music, and visual enhancements, all of which can be refined and customized.
The video further notes that the platform offers pre-designed templates to make professional-looking videos quickly. It also states that its scene-focused timeline editor allows users to add, remove, or rearrange scenes, trim and crop visuals, adjust audio levels, and apply consistent brand colors and fonts. These AI tools can help creators produce cohesive content while keeping flexibility for individual adjustments.
Now available to all Gmail users, these Gemini-powered features in Google Vids let anyone create professional or personal videos quickly, even without advanced editing skills. However, according to the media outlet Digital Trends, certain tools, such as text-to-video generation with Veo 3, AI avatar creation, and storyboarding, are still reserved for paid subscribers.
