Indiana Black Expo South Bend gets $50K to expand business financial literacy program

SOUTH BEND, Ind. — The South Bend Chapter Indiana Black Expo, Inc. announced Tuesday that it will receive a $50,000 grant from Flagstar Bank to expand its Financial Foundations for Success financial literacy program for minority-owned businesses.
The group says it collaborates with The IMPower Center Inc., the current Administrator for the City of South Bend’s Small Business Suite and largest minority service contractor for the city of South Bend, to provide the Financial Foundations for Success financial education and solutions program to the minority business community.
“This financial literacy education program is designed to provide minority small business owners with the knowledge and skills to better manage their finances and position their companies for growth and success,” a spokesperson for the South Bend Chapter said.
“Participants will complete 12 weeks of personalized mentoring and training with CPAs and financial advisors and attended financial management workshop series covering topics like personal and business credit, cash flow planning, financial statements, accessing capital, and budgeting.”
Participants in the training program will also receive a resources toolkit with budget templates, capital planning spreadsheets, links to loan and grant programs, and recommended reading.
The next Financial Foundations for Success Financial Literacy Program cohort will take place July 10 to Oct. 1, and anyone interested should fill out the online application.
