IRS Tax Refunds Worth $3,000 On Average Are Coming This June — Here’s Who’s Eligible

A financial boost could be on the way for many Americans this summer, as the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) prepares to distribute tax refunds in June and July. For eligible taxpayers, IRS tax refunds close to $3,000 may be deposited into bank accounts or mailed out within the month, as Mint reports.

Who’s Eligible?

According to the outlet, taxpayers who submitted their 2024 tax return before the end of May 2025, or filed for an extension, may be eligible to receive the refund. Eligibility is also determined by the accuracy and completeness of your return. If your paperwork was filed electronically and you opted for direct deposit, you’re more likely to receive your refund faster than someone who mailed in a return or is receiving a paper check.

The IRS has emphasized that e-filers with no significant errors or missing information, whose returns are not under review or audit, will be prioritized. That means if you submitted your return accurately and early, you could see your refund land in your account sooner rather than later.

When Will Refunds Arrive?

Refund timelines are based on both the filing date and the method of submission. For those who filed electronically and included direct deposit information between May 1 and May 15, the IRS expects payments to be distributed from now through June 4, as Mint reports. Taxpayers who e-filed returns but are receiving checks by mail may see their refunds arrive between now and June 11.

In cases where paper returns were mailed in the first half of May and require manual review, refunds are likely to be issued between June 26 and July 10, according to the outlet.

For returns submitted between May 16 and May 31, e-filers with direct deposit are expected to receive their refunds between June 6 and June 19. Those waiting on mailed checks should look for them between June 13 and June 26. If your return is paper and being manually reviewed, your refund may arrive between July 11 and July 25.

For those of you unsure about the status of your refund, the IRS offers an online tool called “Where’s My Refund?” that provides real-time updates on your return and payment progress.
