Michael Jordan Gives $10M To North Carolina Medical Center And Its Neuroscience Institute Will Be Named In Honor Of His Mother

Michael Jordan is giving back to his hometown with a generous and meaningful donation.
According to a press release, the basketball legend and entrepreneur announced a $10 million contribution to Novant Health New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington, NC, honoring his mother, Deloris Jordan.
With this gift, the medical center’s neuroscience institute will be renamed the Novant Health Deloris Jordan Neuroscience Institute and will focus on advancing research, expanding access to cutting-edge neurological care, and supporting patients with conditions such as stroke, spine disorders, Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s, and other complex neurological challenges.
In a press statement, he said, “My mother taught me the importance of compassion and community, and I can’t think of a better way to honor her than by helping to ensure those in need can obtain the most advanced neurological care available. I’m proud to continue to partner with Novant Health to expand access to world-class healthcare in my hometown and to support my mother’s work and interest in global health and wellness.”
Deloris serves as founder and president of the James R. Jordan Foundation, overseeing initiatives both in the U.S. and Africa that focus on education, health, and community empowerment, as the press release notes. Through her foundation and advocacy, she has worked to improve access to quality care and promote well-being on a global scale, with a particular focus on women and children.
“I’ve always believed caring for others is one of life’s greatest callings,” she said, per the release.
“As a mother who raised my family in Wilmington, I know how access to quality care shapes a community. I am fascinated by the link between neuroscience and well-being, and how understanding the brain helps us care for the whole person. It is humbling and deeply meaningful to be a part of bringing high-quality care to more people in North Carolina and to improve healthcare across the world.”
This contribution is part of a long-standing partnership between Michael and Novant Health. Previously, he helped establish four Novant Health Michael Jordan Family Medical Clinics in Wilmington and Charlotte, NC, designed to provide primary and preventive care in underserved communities, according to the press release. With this $10 million donation, his total contributions to Novant Health have reached $27 million.
A dedication ceremony for the Novant Health Deloris Jordan Neuroscience Institute is scheduled for early 2026.
