Sovereign City Entertainment Inc., parent company of the Ganjactivist.com Media brand and producers of the documentary series, The Legacy Project, have kicked off a fundraising campaign to raise the first $50,000.00 needed to start production in Vienna, Austria and continue their US slate at MJ Unpacked at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, Atlantic City, New Jersey.
The first stage of production will take place during the 67th staging of the United Nations Commision on Narcotic Drugs. Starting on March 14th and running through the 22nd. Stakeholders from across the spectrum of drug control will be in attendance to assess the current state of the scheduled drug regime and implement changes new information brings to the table. Under significant scrutiny is cannabis as many nations seek to establish both medical and adult-use programmes, which some debate, remain in contravention of the UN Drug Convention treaties.
Taking center stage is the realization of the fundamental failures of the War on Drugs and the steps governments need to take to rectify the misgivings of past declarations. Cannabis has been misclassified since the inception of the convention. Modern research is catching up to traditional medicines, demanding the reclassification or outright declassification of cannabis as a narcotic drug. The team will follow these developments closely.
Attending will be a number of nonprofits and NGOs advocating for a change in approach, from drug prohibition to a humane approach based on human rights and dignity. Our camera crews will follow some of these groups as they navigate the UN system of policy discussion and decision making.
The next major engagement will be at MJ Unpacked at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, Atlantic City, NJ, where the team will set up a prison cell, similar to that 40 Tons created at MJBizCon last November. We’ll conduct interviews inside the jail cell to contrast the differing realities of the burgeoning industry and justice impacted individuals against whom the war was waged.
Just one week after, the team will be in Washington, D.C where the Last Prisoner Project (LPP) we will be mobilizing the largest bi-partisan coalition of cannabis advocacy, industry, and grassroots organizations in the U.S. to convene in Washington D.C. for a 420 Unity Day of Action. The goal is to put public pressure on Congress and the President to take action on the full descheduling of cannabis and the necessary retroactive relief measures.
The final production event for the first stage of production will be the National Cannabis Festival. Also held in Washington, DC. This year’s event will host a plethora of activities, experiences and musical performances. Wu-Tang Clan with Redman and Thundercat are headliners. Post-production on the first phase will begin in May.
