‘Support Black Business 607′ receives New York State Empire Award

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. (WBNG) — Senator Lea Webb presented the New York State Empire Award to “Support Black Business 607,″ a social network that has helped black owned businesses in the region for five years.

Support Black Business 607 is a Facebook Group with more than 7,000 members and has helped foster a spirit of entrepreneurship among the black community.

Founder Sulaiminah Burns said community members join the group to support local businesses or to promote their own business.

“The members know why they’re there, either they’re there because they want to support a business and buy a product or support a service, or because they’re actually a business, so that’s the thing about it where you have this group of people that are of the same mind,” said Burns.

Burns said that the award will help the group expand its reach across the 607 and continue its mission to uplift black business owners.
