Third-Most Valuable Michael Jordan Trading Card Sells For $2.5M At Pharrell Williams’s Auction

The third-most valuable Michael Jordan trading card has sold at auction.
JOOPITER
The rare card has made its way to JOOPITER, an auction house owned by Virginia legend and award-winning music producer Pharrell Williams. As AFROTECH™ previously reported, Williams had been a serial collector and launched the platform in 2022 “to embrace the energy that is released when objects change hands, and to respect the value that’s been created around these objects.”
“Joopiter was founded to not only introduce a new voice into the auction landscape, but to recalibrate what it means to be a collector… We are excited to bring these objects to the world,” Williams said, according to WWD.
Signed 1986-87 Jordan Card
JOOPITER’s latest auction item was a signed 1986-87 Fleer #57 Michael Jordan rookie card, according to information shared on Instagram. Jordan’s card had been one of nine trading cards that he signed back in 2024 on his private golf course in Florida, per the auction’s page. The card was given a Professional Sports Authenticator (PSA) grade of Mint 9, and Jordan’s signature was given a PSA grade of Gem Mint 10, per Bleacher Report. It also marks the first PSA card with that score to be sold publicly in the market.
“The combination of condition, authentication and provenance makes this one of the finest examples of the Jordan rookie card in existence, and the first PSA 9/10 to publicly come to market…An essential acquisition for the dedicated collector,” JOOPITER said in the Instagram post.
Bidding for the trading card closed at 9:02am CDT on June 26, 2025, and was projected to sell at between $2 million and $3 million, according to Bleacher Report. The card received a single bid and sold for $2.5 million.
This marks the first sports card to be sold at JOOPITER, notes ESPN.
“We are excited to debut in the world of sports collectibles, largely in response to enthusiasm from our global community of collectors,” Caitlin Donovan, global head of sales at Joopiter, told the outlet. “With a focus on rare and iconic sports memorabilia, infused with the rich history that make these pieces truly special, we look forward to bringing this community unique and significant pieces of sports history.”
