Trump Vows To Block Solar And Wind Projects Over Rising Energy Costs

President Donald Trump has made it clear that his administration will not support new solar or wind energy projects.

Posting on his Truth Social account on Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2025, Trump reiterated past criticisms of renewable energy, claiming solar farms take up too much land.

“Any State that has built and relied on WINDMILLS and SOLAR for power are seeing RECORD BREAKING INCREASES IN ELECTRICITY AND ENERGY COSTS,” Trump wrote.

“THE SCAM OF THE CENTURY! We will not approve wind or farmer destroying Solar. The days of stupidity are over in the USA,” he continued.

According to CNBC, the president’s comments follow his administration’s move last month under Interior Secretary Doug Burgum to centralize federal permitting for renewable projects — a shift that has raised fears among developers about stalled approvals.

Since taking office for a second term in January 2025, Trump has targeted clean energy with policies like the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act.” Signed on July 4, the bill froze the $7 billion “Solar For All” program — aimed at expanding renewable energy access for low-income Americans — and will also end key tax credits for wind and solar by 2027, the New York Post reported.

“The One Big Beautiful Bill Act is a historic piece of legislation that will restore energy independence and make life more affordable for American families by reversing disastrous Biden-era policies that constricted domestic energy production,” said Interior Secretary Doug Burgum in a press release.

As reported by CNBC, Trump blamed renewables for rising electricity prices, citing strain on PJM Interconnection — the nation’s largest grid — where coal plant retirements and surging data center demands have driven a 22% jump in power capacity prices.

Still, data from the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory shows that solar and battery storage — which account for most of the planned projects — are the fastest way to relieve the supply-and-demand gap.

“This marks a significant shift in how we manage our public lands, support energy development and work with local communities,” Burgum noted in the July 22 press release.

“The Department is proud to implement President Trump’s agenda and get the federal government back to working for the American people,” he added.
