Uber Launches Pilot Program Where Drivers Can Earn Extra Money By Training AI Models

The future of ridesharing is here.
Digital Tasks To Get Paid
Uber is piloting a new way for its drivers to earn money when they’re not on the road. In a blog post, the company said it is piloting digital tasks for select drivers and couriers. According to Newsweek, the initiative was first introduced during the “Only on Uber 2025” conference in Washington, D.C., and its AI Solutions group will power it. The feature is already being tested in India.
The company gave several examples of tasks a driver can fulfill in just a few minutes, including uploading photos to train AI models, submitting documents in different languages, or recording yourself speaking in a language.
“Uber connects you with companies that need real people to help improve their technology. By completing short digital tasks across different languages and topics, you’ll help make their products smarter — while earning extra through the Uber app,” the company said in the blog post.
Drivers will be able to earn more when other tasks are introduced. Payments will fluctuate depending on the time required and difficulty, and earnings should appear in drivers’ accounts within 24 hours, the rideshare company said in the blog post.
“Ever wish you could make some money without hitting the road? Now you can. Whether you’re out and about or relaxing at home, you can occasionally complete digital tasks in the Driver app when you’re not taking trips,” the post mentioned.
How To Get Started
To get started, drivers can opt in from the Work Hub. If the feature isn’t available, they can’t participate in the pilot at this time. After onboarding, digital tasks will appear in the Opportunity Center when available.
“Tasks are offered according to our clients’ needs, you might not always see them,” Uber noted in the blog post.
Drivers can also see how long a task will take and how much they can earn in advance.
