Make no doubt about it, Usher is a certified superstar. And these past few years have definitely solidified him as such. Usher has been everywhere, from award ceremonies to headlining tours, Usher doesn’t seem to stop or slow down.

But to his millions of fans’ dismay, Usher’s body is making him slow down.

Writing in a post to both his official X/Twitter and Instagram, the beloved R&B crooner shockingly revealed that he would have to cancel the opening night performance of his “Past, Present, Future” tour to give his body “a second to rest and heal.” This announcement comes just months after he performed at this year’s ESSENCEFest as a headliner, this year’s Super Bowl Halftime Show, released his ninth studio album “Coming Home” and finished a six-month, out-of-this-world Las Vegas residency tour which started back in July 2022.

“For my 30-plus year career, 100% of my blood, sweat and tears has gone into putting on the best performance and creating a memorable experience for my fans. I have every intention of doing that for this tour as well which is why I have to postpone tonight’s show and reschedule it for a later date to give my body a second to rest and heal,” he said in an official announcement.

“My hope was that with physical therapy and medical treatment, I would be able to overcome the injury and be ready for opening night,” he wrote. “Unfortunately the injury has not healed yet, and my doctors have instructed me not to perform any shows this week.”

Usher continued to explain that he suffered the injury during rehearsals for what he calls “the greatest Usher show of all time,” and that with “appropriate rest and treatment,” he should be able to start the tour in D.C. on Aug. 20.

“I love my fans and thank you for understanding that this injury must be healed so that I can give you the 100% excellence that you expect from an Usher show and that I will be on stage in your city very soon,” he added.

“The last thing I want to ever do is disappoint you, the fans who have been eagerly waiting for this tour to start,” Usher wrote. “However, I wouldn’t be the entertainer that I am if I can’t physically give you my best.”

Usher’s Potential Treatment to Heal the Injury

The most common types of mild to moderate neck pain usually respond within two or three weeks to self-care. Pain relievers and the use of heat might be all that’s needed.

Pain relievers might include nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), such as ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin IB, others) or naproxen sodium (Aleve), or acetaminophen (Tylenol, others). Take these medications only as directed. Overuse can cause serious side effects.

If pain relievers you can buy without a prescription don’t help, your health care provider might suggest prescription NSAIDs or muscle relaxers.

Types of Therapy Usher Had to go Through

Physical therapy
A physical therapist would help the “Let It Burn” singer correct his posture, alignment and neck-strengthening exercises. Physical therapy might also involve the use of heat, ice and other measures to help ease pain.

Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS)
Electrodes placed on the skin near the painful areas deliver tiny electrical impulses that may relieve pain. However, there’s little evidence that TENS works for neck pain.

Soft neck collar.
A soft collar that supports the neck may help relieve pain by taking pressure off the neck. However, if used for more than three hours at a time or for more than 1 to 2 weeks, a collar might do more harm than good.

Surgical and other procedures
Steroid injections. A health care provider might inject steroid medications near the nerve roots, into the spinal joints or into the muscles in the neck. Numbing medications, such as lidocaine, also can be injected to relieve neck pain.
Surgery. Rarely needed for neck pain, surgery might be an option for relieving nerve root or spinal cord compression.
