Vice President Harris Graces Cover Of ‘Essence’ Magazine

Vice President Kamala Harris is giving first-woman president vibes on the cover of Essence magazine’s Collector’s Edition September / October subscriber issue. The compelling cover features the Democratic presidential candidate draped in a tailored black blazer worn over a polka dot blouse and paired with her most powerful accessory—confidence.

Vice President Harris sat down with ESSENCE Ventures CEO and President Caroline Wanga to discuss her political trajectory, presidential action plan, and more.

When President Joe Biden announced that Vice President Harris would take his place as the 2024 Democratic Presidential candidate, Black women immediately got into formation. We made calls, sent out text messages, scheduled Zoom meetings, and blasted out emails about how we could help our nation by making the Howard University alumni the first woman president of the United States. VP Harris has always been “that girl, not just as the right-hand woman to President Biden, but the California native is a beacon of light and a politician who understands the intricate needs of Americans as a whole, not just one class.

Vice President Kamala Harris is No Stranger to Service

VP Harris began preparing for the role of a politician when she was young. “Living a life of service is something I was raised to feel a sense of responsibility to do—as do all of us, in various ways. And for me, it’s in elected office, the chief told Wanga.

She grew up around individuals who put their heart and soul into cultivating their community. She witnessed an extended family member run a daycare, counsel young families, and watch her uncle offer his law expertise to the community. Her upbringing instilled a sense of service in her as a young child and foretold her future. I was raised by and among a bunch of people who really felt a responsibility to give and to serve. And it was expected of all of us that we would do the same. And that is the life I’ve chosen to live, the former Attorney General declared.
