Derrick Rose Opens Flower Shop To Create Community, Strengthen Bonds, And Spread Love In His Hometown Of Chicago – AfroTech

Derrick Rose has launched a new business in his hometown alongside his family.
The Chicago native was the NBA “Rookie of the Year” when he splashed on the scene in 2008, and was later named the league’s MVP for the 2010-11 season, according to a press release. In 2024, Rose retired from the NBA. Now, he will be honored by the Chicago Bulls during a postgame ceremony to retire his jersey on Jan. 24, 2026.
Reflecting on his career, he told ABC7 Chicago, “I feel like I practiced my butt off. I feel like, only if people knew how much I sacrificed before every game. I wasn’t just trying to be good. I wanted to be great. Once I got done, I felt that pressure off my shoulders of trying to be perfect.”
Rose’s Flower Shop
After finishing his NBA career with $166.1 million in earnings, per Spotrac, Rose has become the owner of Rose’s Flower Shop.
The company’s website shares the journey started on Sept. 26, 2024, when Rose retired and sent roses to loved ones who were instrumental in the success of his basketball career as a way of saying thank you.
Today, the retired NBA player says “that moment planted the seed for something bigger,” he shared on Rose’s Flower Shop’s website.
“Roses have always meant more to me than something simply beautiful. Not just because it’s my last name, but because to me, they represent love and appreciation,” Rose said via his website.
“As a Chicago native, it was important to me that this shop reflects where I come from. From the South Side to out West, Rose’s Flower Shop is about bringing people together. Because a simple gesture, like giving flowers, goes a long way in creating community, strengthening bonds, and spreading love,” he added. “This shop is a reflection of what I believe in. Flowers bring people together. Legacy is built through the people you love. Craft deserves respect. The most beautiful things are meant to be shared.”
Based on the website, customers can expect fresh flowers to be released every Sunday. Its florals are available in a 12-stem bouquet priced at $89.99 with color offerings that include Chicago Red, Morning on Michigan, Rush Hour, City Lights, and Summertime Chi.
