This Halloween, Atlanta families can trade the ordinary for an extraordinary day of fitness, costumes, entertainment, and a chance to participate in a historic Thriller dance.
ATLANTA, GA — October 22, 2026 | Black News Daily
Who says Halloween has to be all about candy, costumes, and scary movies?
This year, Atlanta is putting an exciting new spin on the holiday by bringing together fitness, family fun, music, and a chance to make history!
On Saturday, October 31, 2026, Morehouse College’s B.T. Harvey Stadium will host Happy Thrillerween 2026, featuring the BOUNCE ROCK Skate Roll 5K Run/Walk and an ambitious Guinness World Record attempt for the World’s Largest Thriller Dance.
The event promises a Halloween experience that encourages Metro Atlanta residents to get off the couch, get active, and celebrate with their families and communities.
Whether you’re a serious runner, a casual walker, a roller skater, or someone who simply loves music and dancing, there’s an opportunity to join the excitement.
And the best part? You don’t have to be a professional athlete or dancer to participate.
Not Your Ordinary 5K: Run, Walk, Skate, Bike or Roll!
Forget the traditional 5K experience!
The BOUNCE ROCK Skate Roll 5K Run/Walk is designed to bring together people of different ages, interests, and fitness abilities through a shared celebration of movement.
Instead of limiting participation to runners, the event offers several ways to complete the 3.1-mile experience, including running, walking, roller skating, bicycling, and wheelchair/adaptive athletics.
Participants can select their preferred activity category, making the event appealing to fitness enthusiasts as well as families and community members looking for a fun reason to get moving.
With Halloween costumes, music, and a festive atmosphere adding to the experience, this isn’t just about reaching the finish line. It’s about enjoying the journey and celebrating personal achievement.
The 5K activities are scheduled to begin at 9 a.m., with category-specific waves and course operations subject to final event arrangements.
And once the race festivities are underway, the excitement continues with a second attraction that could put Atlanta in the record books.
Atlanta Gets Ready for a Guinness World Record Attempt!
Imagine standing alongside fellow Atlantans inside B.T. Harvey Stadium, preparing to perform one of the most iconic dance routines in music history.
That’s exactly what organizers envision for the World’s Largest Thriller Dance Guinness World Record attempt, inspired by Michael Jackson’s legendary 1982 hit, “Thriller.”
The dance has become a Halloween tradition across generations, bringing together people who love its unforgettable choreography, music, and pop-culture legacy.
Now, Happy Thrillerween is giving Atlanta residents an opportunity to participate in a collective performance with a historic goal.
A group rehearsal is scheduled for 11 a.m., followed by the official record attempt at 12 noon.
Participants must register and follow the event’s check-in and choreography requirements to be included in the attempt.
The existing Guinness World Record was established in Mexico City in 2009. Atlanta’s attempt will require official evidence and Guinness verification before any new record can be recognized.
For local residents, the opportunity goes beyond breaking a record. It’s about experiencing the excitement of an entire community coming together for one extraordinary moment.
Run the 5K. Dance into history. Make Halloween unforgettable!
A Family-Friendly Halloween Celebration With a Healthy Twist
Beyond the two major attractions, Happy Thrillerween is transforming the stadium grounds into a community celebration that combines health, entertainment, culture, and family activities.
The day’s planned festivities include the Healthcare Reimagined Health Fair, featuring health education, wellness resources, and participating healthcare organizations.
Families can also look forward to Halloween costumes, trick-or-treat activities, DJs, music, Southern Soul line dancing, and other entertainment.
A Corporate Village and community marketplace will showcase local businesses, exhibitors, vendors, and organizations.
The event also highlights cancer research awareness and community initiatives associated with the Ora Lee Smith Cancer Research Foundation.
Together, these activities offer a different approach to Halloween: one that encourages families to celebrate while embracing physical activity, health awareness, and community connections.
For parents looking for something beyond traditional Halloween parties, Happy Thrillerween presents a daytime alternative where fitness and fun share the spotlight.
Bringing Metro Atlanta Together at Morehouse College
There’s something special about hosting an event centered on movement, music, wellness, and community at one of the country’s most recognized Historically Black Colleges and Universities.
Located in the heart of Atlanta, Morehouse College provides a meaningful backdrop for an experience designed to bring people together across neighborhoods and generations.
Organizers are encouraging families, college students, fitness groups, churches, fraternities, sororities, dance teams, and community organizations throughout Metro Atlanta to participate.
From Cobb and DeKalb to Fulton, Clayton, Gwinnett, and surrounding counties, the invitation is open to those ready to spend Halloween being active and creating memories.
And whether you’re hitting the 5K course, learning the Thriller dance, or enjoying the community festivities, Happy Thrillerween offers several ways to become part of the celebration.
