Dirty Cop Charged With Rape And Sex Trafficking Black Women Commits Suicide As Civil Rights Trial Begins

Roger Golubski, a former Kansas City police detective accused of raping and sex trafficking Black women, was found dead in an apparent suicide on Dec. 2, that morning his long-awaited criminal civil rights trial was set to begin. The 71-year-old’s body was discovered on his back porch in Edwardsville, Kansas, by local authorities who responded to a 911 call reporting a gunshot. The Kansas Bureau of Investigation has confirmed there were no immediate signs of foul play, though an investigation into the death is ongoing, CNN reports.

Golubski was a detective for the Kansas City Police Department for over 30 years. He was facing multiple felony charges for violating the civil rights of women in poor, predominantly Black neighborhoods. He was accused of using his position to exploit vulnerable women, demanding sexual favors and threatening their families with arrest if they refused.

According to prosecutors, Golubski preyed on these women for decades, and he had already been implicated in a separate case involving the wrongful conviction of Lamonte McIntyre, a Black man who was framed for a double murder in 1994. McIntyre, who spent more than 23 years in prison before being exonerated in 2017, was granted a $12.5 million settlement after a civil suit revealed Golubski’s role in the false conviction, The Associated Press reports.

Golubski’s death has left the victims, the community, and advocates for justice with a sense of frustration. Cheryl Pilate, the civil attorney for McIntyre, expressed disappointment, noting that the community had been waiting for a full accounting of his actions, which will now never come.
