Identical Twin Brothers Become Co-Medical Directors Of Their Hometown Hospital’s Emergency Department – AfroTech

Identical twins, Dr. Travan Jasper and Dr. Travis Jasper, are also pursuing the same career together.
Born in their local hospital’s emergency department in Richmond, VA, the pair were co-valedictorians in high school, ABC News reports. From there, they went on to attend college together and solidified their plan to pursue a career path that had not yet been followed in their family. They wanted to become doctors, which led them to medical school, where they gained experience at hospitals in Georgia.
Now, they are working as co-medical directors at the emergency department at HCA Healthcare’s Chippenham Hospital in Richmond.
“It’s a real honor to have that opportunity to care for people you know and you’re close to … One of the things we did when we came back is we called all those people [we grew up with] and said … ‘Look, there’s some new sheriffs in town, come to Chippenham if you want excellent care in the emergency department, come to Chippenham because we’re going to be a part of it,’” Travis recalled to ABC News.
HCA Healthcare says the brothers-turned-doctors make history as the only twins to lead a hospital department in its 18-hospital regional network serving Virginia and New Hampshire.
“Their unique leadership and shared dedication to advancing patient care make for a remarkable story within HCA Healthcare, one of the nation’s leading healthcare networks,” the health system said in a statement, according to ABC News.
HCA Healthcare’s Chippenham Hospital CEO Lance Jones says they are an “asset.”
“Their shared commitment to clinical excellence, collaboration and compassionate care reflects our mission to care for and improve human life,” Jones expressed to ABC News. “By treating every patient with the same attention, respect and support they would want for their own family members, they help ensure our emergency department delivers exceptional care when it matters most.”
