Multi-hyphenate Issa Rae is a three-time sports owner.
Rae, who is an actress, producer, founder, and investor, has an estimated net worth of $20 million. In 2025, she said she doesn’t define her success by her business moves, but by whether her “sh-t is on the air,” as AFROTECH™ previously reported. Now, in 2026, she is returning to HBO — five years after the conclusion of her hit show “Insecure” — with a half-hour comedy pilot titled “Untitled Male Friendship Show,” Deadline reports.
Unrivaled
Rae is also making noise as an investor in Unrivaled, a 3-on-3 women’s basketball league founded by Breanna Stewart and Napheesa Collier, with equity opportunities, according to a press release shared with AFROTECH™. Rae participated in Unrivaled’s oversubscribed Series C funding round, announced Oct. 5, joining Carmelo Anthony, Coco Gauff, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Trae Young, and others. The raise brought Unrivaled’s valuation to $650 million.
“Unrivaled speaks to me and everyone who wants to set new standards, and what the league has done and continues to do for the best women’s basketball players in the world is something I’m proud to invest in,” Rae said in the press release. “After experiencing Unrivaled firsthand last season, it was clear that they’re building something special. I look forward to being part of the league’s growth and success to come.”

Collier commented, per another press release:
“From the beginning, our goal has been to raise the standard for what players and fans should expect from women’s basketball. This investment allows Unrivaled to keep pushing that standard higher, creating the best possible environment for players to compete and thrive, while making the experience bigger and better for the fans who continue to show up for women’s basketball.”
Other Team Investments
Beyond Unrivaled, Rae also has a stake in the new Los Angeles Orbit women’s volleyball team, a professional League One Volleyball team, according to Revolt, and has joined San Diego FC’s ownership group as a club partner, according to MLS Soccer.
