ATLANTA, GA — Political strategist and public affairs professional Michaela Montgomery is stepping into a new leadership role in Atlanta after being named Treasurer of the Buckhead Young Republicans (BYR).

The organization announced Montgomery’s addition to its board on social media, saying it looks forward to working alongside her to make a difference and uplift the Atlanta community.

Montgomery brings an extensive background in politics, public affairs and community engagement to the position. Based in Washington, D.C., she has built a career around political strategy, relationship building and connecting communities with opportunities at the intersection of policy, business and public service.

Her growing national profile also includes a presidential appointment. Montgomery was appointed by President Donald J. Trump to serve on the Board of Advisors for the White House Initiative on Historically Black Colleges and Universities, placing her among a group tasked with supporting the advancement and competitiveness of HBCUs.

For Montgomery, however, the connection to Atlanta and HBCUs runs deeper than politics.

A graduate of Clark Atlanta University, she founded Conserve the Culture in 2017. According to her biography shared by BYR, the organization has helped create more than 1,000 jobs while connecting thousands of HBCU students and young professionals with internships, fellowships and career opportunities.

Her political résumé is equally extensive. Montgomery has reportedly consulted on more than 60 political campaigns, contributing to more than 40 victories. Her professional experience spans public affairs, crisis communications, energy, national security, artificial intelligence infrastructure and economic development.

She has also emerged as a political commentator, with appearances across national media outlets including Fox News, C-SPAN, Newsmax and Al Jazeera.

Montgomery’s appointment comes as conversations surrounding the political engagement of younger Black voters continue to evolve nationally. Her presence within the Buckhead Young Republicans also represents another example of Black political leadership becoming increasingly visible across spaces where African American voices have historically received less attention.

Rather than fitting neatly into traditional assumptions about what Black political participation should look like, leaders like Montgomery are demonstrating the growing diversity of thought, strategy and political involvement within the Black community.

For the Buckhead Young Republicans, Montgomery brings political experience, an established network and a track record centered around creating opportunities for young professionals. For Montgomery, the new role provides another platform to influence Atlanta’s civic and political landscape while remaining connected to a city and HBCU community that helped shape her career.

After the announcement, Montgomery kept her response simple: “Excited to serve!”

Her latest appointment may be local, but with experience stretching from Clark Atlanta University to national political campaigns and the White House, Montgomery’s political footprint continues to grow.
