When the Philadelphia 76ers secured the signature of LeBron James in the free agency market, most would’ve thought that was the move to signal that their front office was done for the offseason, given that they had already pulled off a blockbuster trade with a historic rival in the weeks prior.
But that wasn’t the case, as Philadelphia looked to reunite James with a former teammate, one with whom he had lifted the Larry O’Brien Trophy during the 2020 season: Kentavious Caldwell-Pope.
The Sixers put pen to paper on a one-year deal worth $3.88 million to bring the two-time NBA champion to the City of Brotherly Love, as reported by Spotrac.

Given that it’s still the offseason, and most teams won’t have to report to training camp for another month or so, it’s imagined that Caldwell-Pope is still taking time to relax and unwind. But that’d be a wrong assumption to make, given that the 33-year-old was spotted alongside his Sixers teammates at a recent scrimmage at the iconic Rico Hines Runs, according to ESPN’s Dave McMenamin.
The players that Caldwell-Pope is seen alongside include V.J. Edgecombe, Dominick Barlow, Labaron Philon Jr, and Caleb Love, all of whom were partaking in a scrimmage on Monday at the training sessions set up by the Sixers’ assistant coach. It’s worth noting that third-year center Adem Bona was seen in that match, but not in the photo featuring Caldwell-Pope posted by McMenamin.
But it isn’t just the 33-year-old who was spotted by the ESPN reporter, as Bob Myers was reportedly seen in attendance on Tuesday, as was “most of the coaching staff”.
As previously explained, the scrimmages are becoming somewhat of a staple over the last few seasons, providing NBA players with a chance to hone their craft against a similar talent level during the offseason, with the likes of Luka Garza, Johnny Juzang lacing up on Monday night against some of the Sixers’ players.
