Robert F. Smith’s Vista Equity Reportedly In Talks Of Selling One Of Its Portfolio Companies – AfroTech

Robert F. Smith is looking to sell one of Vista Equity Partners’ portfolio companies.
As AFROTECH™ previously reported, the billionaire is the founder, chairman, and partner at Vista Equity Partners, a private equity firm that invests in enterprise software, data, and technology companies.
Its portfolio includes the AI-powered platform Allvue Systems, which “unifies data, automates workflows, and delivers actionable insights across the private investment lifecycle,” according to its website. Additionally, Allvue partners with consultants, fund administrators, and other service providers, according to its website.
In 2019, Vista Equity Partners acquired AltaReturn and merged it with its portfolio company Black Mountain to form Allvue. The merger was intended to support further growth domestically and internationally. It would also support additional investment in Black Mountain’s platform and solutions for data aggregation, process management, and business reporting, according to a press release.
“This investment is a significant milestone for our company, our employees, and our customers,” said Black Mountain Co-CEO Andy Horwitz in the release. “We’ve already established ourselves as the market leader in workflow software for credit, structured credit, and alternative asset managers, and now we have a partner in Vista who will help us leverage and build upon that leadership position with financial and intellectual capital to accelerate our growth.”
Smith commented:
“Black Mountain has long been the standard-bearer for process management and portfolio monitoring solutions in its field. We’re looking forward to working with this talented and innovative company to push it even further ahead of the competition, unlocking new value for both customers and stakeholders.”
Since the 2019 acquisition, Allvue launched the Centralized Data Cloud (2020), acquired PFA Solutions (2024), launched Nexius Enterprise Data Solutions (2025), and reached more than 500 clients (2025).
Allvue’s annual recurring revenue exceeds $200 million, according to Reuters.
Vista Equity Partners is in talks with Evercore and Barclays to explore a sale of Allvue valued at between $2 billion and $3 billion, per the outlet.
