KINGSTON, N.Y. — The Ulster County Regional Chamber of Commerce is set to honor five Black business owners and community leaders for this year’s Black Business Awards, the chamber announced on Tuesday.
In a press release, chamber officials said the awardees will be honored at a celebration on June 18 at Ulster Savings Bank, 180 Schwenk Drive, from 4:30 to 8 p.m. The event is co-hosted by the chamber, Ulster County Tourism, and Black History Kingston.
The release said the winner of the Black Business Excellence Award is Eddie Parker, owner of EAP Productions DJ Service. Parker is a retired employee of the state office of Children and Family Services.
Sharon Williams, director of the Ulster County Office of Employment and Training, has been awarded the Black Business Leadership award, while the Maude Bruce Community Award is going to Mia F. Howard, chief executive officer of Scrub Masters Plus Corp.
This year’s Young Black Leader Award is going to Naimah Armstrong, a licensed clinical social worker at the Kingston City School District and entrepreneur who operates Crowned From Ashes, providing therapeutic counseling.
Frank Waters, founder and executive director of non-profit youth organization MyKingstonKids, will receive the Ripple Effect Award.
“It’s absolutely amazing to see another stellar roster of exemplary Black business owners and leaders from the Ulster County area being recognized and celebrated,” said chamber vice president Jess Davis in a statement. “The Ulster Chamber is incredibly grateful to our partnering sponsors whose continued support helps make this event possible year after year. The awards celebration is free and open to all but registration is required.
