Recounting the conversation with the bank, he said they told him, “‘I’ll put a merger and acquisition person over there with you… They have these initiatives for minority vending. Everybody will respect the fact that you’re a minority vendor because of your history and you’re on TV. We will give you the money. We want you to acquire like in a hotel, we want you to acquire a rug company, a lighting company, a furniture company. We want to then put you into bid for this stuff … I guarantee you, Daymond, you probably will make an average of whatever whatever.’”
John reflected on what the journey ahead would look like if he moved forward with the offer. He considered the fact it would be a 20-year commitment, which would likely mean managing a team of 20,000 people. He considered the seven or eight homes he already owned, which his friends enjoyed more than he did. He also considered his daughter, who was 9 years old at the time of the 2025 interview. Ultimately, these considerations led him to reject the bank’s offer.
