Wolves legend Steve Bull adds star power to Black Country business’ long service celebration

Jenks & Cattell Engineering held an afternoon of festivities dedicated to honouring long-serving staff and celebrating recent company successes.

The Wednesfield-based business, which has been a major employer in the Wolverhampton area for well over a century, is one of the UK’s longest-established manufacturers of metal pressings, laser-cut components and welded assemblies and plays a vital role in the automotive, energy, and off-highway supply chains.

On what turned out to be one of the warmest days of the year, the company paused its operations to give its 115 team members a 90-minute break filled with pizza, ice cream, drinks and well-deserved recognition.

Adding star power to the celebration was special guest Steve Bull MBE — one of Wolverhampton’s most beloved sporting figures.

Bull, who famously scored more than 300 goals for Wolverhampton Wanderers and earned 13 England caps, was invited to present the company’s long service awards.

Accolades were presented to 21 team members for five-plus years of service, 15 employees for 10-plus years and five for more than 20 years of service.

Each recipient received a service pin (bronze, silver, or gold) and a certificate, presented by technical director Craig Jeavons alongside Steve Bull.

During the event, tributes were paid to Steve Reade, who retired at the end of April after nearly 30 years of service – having joined Jenks & Cattell Engineering Ltd in 1996.

Mr Jeavons, who has more than 32 years with Jenks & Cattell himself, delivered a heartfelt speech celebrating Mr Reade’s long service, and Bull closed by awarding him a gold pin badge, certificate and a £300 gift on behalf of the company.

The celebratory event also marked Jenks & Cattell’s achievement of the IATF 16949 accreditation – an internationally recognised quality standard for automotive manufacturers which strengthens internal processes and opens doors to new business opportunities. In fact, the company secured a major order just weeks after gaining accreditation.
